As part of the Sea Rose admission process, we typically have a parent come in at 9:30 a.m. for a 30-minute observation, followed by a chat with one of the Primary lead teachers. The following day the child arrives at 9:30 a.m. for a 40-minute visit in which they take part in the morning work cycle, choosing any work they want to explore (or observe others working), guided by the lead teacher.
The parent(s) will observe the classroom (without the child) for approximately 30 minutes, and then meet briefly with the Primary lead teacher afterward to hear more about how our program runs, and to ask any questions.
Your child will visit the Sea Rose Primary classroom for approximately 40 minutes. During the visit, many parents like to visit the nearby Green Grocer or Anna D’s Cafe. Please leave your cell phone number with the staff just in case we need to contact you.
The visit will be very relaxed, and your child won’t be tested in any way. The teacher will follow the child’s lead and guide them to take out some materials that seem of interest (geography puzzles, drawing using metal insets, counting materials, sorting beads, or whatever appeals to them). If they show interest in what other students are doing, we might choose to observe them for a bit, and that’s fine, too.
The Primary lead teacher sometimes takes a few photos to share with the parents, and will chat with you about how it went when she walks the child to the door. All the other children will be busy in their normal work cycle, so your child will not be put on the spot or asked to say anything in front of a group.
